LiveSideより。元記事は、Live HotmailのCAPTCHAはもうダメだ。6秒足らずでCAPTCHA画像が破られるようになった。マイクロソフトリサーチはCAPTCHAに代わるものとして動物画像を使った認証「ASIRRA」を開発してるよ。CAPTCHAは、ASIRRAか、はたまた別の何かに置き換わっていくだろう。という感じの内容。たぶん。
このASIRRA（Animal Species Image Recognition for Restricting Access）ってのは12枚の犬と猫の写真が表示されて、猫を選んで人かBOTかを識別するという認証の仕組み。知らなかったけど1年以上前からあったようですね。ASIRRA以外での こういう方法はゲイツ認証など以前から知っていた。この方法ではデータベースとなる画像の数が肝になるけど、ASIRRAでは300万以上もの画像があるらしくセキュリティ的に従来よりOK！ ということ。
以上まではふーんという内容だけど、使われている画像のアイデアが素晴らしい。犬猫の写真はPetfinder.comというホームレス ペットの飼い主を探すのを目的としたサイトから使用している。認証するとき、写真とともに「Adopt me」とリンクも表示されて、飼い主になりたいと思った人はPetfinder.comへ直行でき、Petfinder.comの主目的も達成できている。
現在はベータ版のため既に飼い主がいる画像も表示されてしまうが、正式版では飼い主がいないものを優先し、さらにIPアドレスから近い地域にいるペットを表示するというアイデアもあるようだ。
ベータ版ではあるけども、各種言語でASIRRAを利用できるよう用意されている。WordPrss用のプラグインまである。
