MCEはProの機能を付け加えたものだけだと思ってた・・・
じゃなくてMCEはMCEなんですね

●実は格安のXP Pro？

　MCE2005のメリットとしてはコスト面で有利な点も挙げられる。MCE2005はService Pack 2を適用したWinXP Proに前述のメディアセンターを追加したものと同等で、機能的には通常のWinXP Proより上位。MCE2005では無効になっているとアナウンスされているドメインログイン機能についても、インストール時にドメインを使用するように設定しておけば非公式ながら使用できる。つまり、仮に同価格だったとしてもメディアセンターを搭載する分MCE2005のほうがお得というわけだ。CD-ROMに収録されている未公開の日本語版Windows Media Player 10も嬉しいおまけだ。

　MCE2005の中心価格帯はOEM版のWinXP ProとHome Editionのほぼ中間。前述のとおりOS単品での購入はできないが、自作ユーザーからMCE2005は“安価なWinXP Pro”という位置付けのOSとしても人気化するのは必至だだろう。
